What can a website copywriter do for you?
Your website must:
- attract Internet traffic
- keep visitors interested once they arrive (from the Internet or elsewhere)
- get a commitment (make a purchase or contact you).
If your website doesn’t do these things … well, there really isn’t much point.
As a website copywriter, it’s my job to help generate business.
Let me explain…
Attract Internet traffic
It is important that your website is optimised for search engines, like Google. This is where I take on the role of SEO copywriter.
I begin by researching key words and phrases your customers are likely to use when searching for your business online. From this research I produce a report and use it as a guide when choosing keywords for your copy, title tags and meta descriptions.
Title tags & meta descriptions
These are what is seen when your website appears in Internet searches. Here is what they look like:
Title tag: Widgets for the home in Wellington NZ
Meta description: We are a NZ, Wellington-based supplier of top-quality widgets for your home. Visit our website to learn how you can work less and save more.
Keep visitors interested
Attracting visitors to your website isn’t enough — you also need to get them to hang around. To do this, your copy must be written with your customers in mind. So, I need to understand your business, why you are great at what you do and who your customers are.
Get a commitment
In most cases, it is important to get some sort of commitment from the visitor. You may want them to make a purchase, to contact you, or, maybe download a case study or white paper. Therefore, it is my job to create a compelling call to action.
How I work
First we talk. And thanks to the Internet, Skype and telephones, it doesn’t matter where in New Zealand, or the world, you are. I’ll ask questions like:
- What do you do?
- Who are your customers?
- What benefits do you provide?
- What problems do your customers have that you can solve?
- What is your point of difference?
Of course, the more written material you can supply me the better.
Next I write your copy. I usually write one page at a time. Once a page is complete, I will email it to you for approval. At this stage I make changes if required.
Once you have approved the copy, it is then ready to be loaded onto your website.
This is what a client said:
“We employed Andrew’s web copywriting skills for one of our major clients. The brief was to create SEO-friendly copy for multiple site pages for a Government/Non-profit initiative based on a keyword strategy we developed. Andrew delivered quality results before deadline and showed a high level of understanding of SEO concepts around keyword density while retaining a natural, human friendly flow. We will recommend Andrew again – Mike Morgan, High Profile Enterprises.”
